BOOSTER LESSONS
DESCRIPTION
Booster Lessons are mini private lessons designed to give a “boost” with one-on-one instruction.
These lessons are 20 minutes long and can be scheduled during public or freestyle sessions.
Skaters may take just one lesson or schedule up to three “boost” lessons. These lessons can be used to prepare for evaluations or to work on a maneuver that skaters may be struggling with.
The lessons can also be used to learn new maneuvers or to get an idea of what private lessons are all about.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Boost lessons are only available for the Learn to Skate USA, Hockey 1-4 or Adult 1-4 program participants or prior to the program. The fee per Boost lesson is $20 and must be paid at the skate rental prior to the lesson.
Skaters purchasing a lesson must bring their receipt to their scheduled instructor before the lesson time.
“Boost” lesson includes: 20 minutes one-on-one private instructional lesson, skate rental and ice time! You can schedule a maximum of up to 3 lessons, and if you wish to continue, you will have to schedule private lessons with the coach directly. (More information about private lessons below). You can also contact Alena Lunin – Skating Director if any questions alunin@sportoneparkviewicehouse.com

HOW TO ARRANGE PRIVATE LESSONS
There are a few ways to arrange a private lesson:
You are welcome to come and observe our professionals and approach them directly to arrange a lesson day & time. Coaches set their own schedules. Private lessons are available during public and freestyle sessions for all levels of skaters & hockey.
A few tips to find the right coach:
There are many factors involved in selecting a coach. Some things to consider are personality, learning & teaching styles, experience, and technical know-how.
You know your child and have the best idea of who might make a good fit. Keep your childs personality and needs in mind when interviewing and selecting a coach.

FREESTYLE ICE ETIQUETTE
For the safety and enjoyment all skaters, coaches and parents to follow our ice etiquette on all sessions. Specific rules governing free skating sessions
- Be sure to dress appropriately and have your hair up and out of your face.
- Pick up all belongings (including dirty tissues, water bottles, etc.) at the end of the session.
- Coaching by parents from the hockey benches or door is not allowed at any time. Parents will be asked to leave the arena if this happens.
- If skaters must talk to someone off the ice, even if for a brief time, they need to get off the ice to do so or the skater will be asked to leave the ice.
- Please keep talking to other skaters on the ice to a bare minimum. If you are on the ice you should be practicing or working with your coach.
- No back spirals or other elements that do not allow you to look behind you unless you are working with a coach.
- It is important for everyone’s safety that all skaters stay aware of other skaters on the ice. Try to anticipate their patterns as you decide your own pattern.
- If you are a less experienced skater, please be extra careful to stay aware of other skaters and to look ahead of where you are skating to see what others are doing or are about to do.
- If you are an experienced skater, please be patient with the less experienced skaters. Remember – you were new to freestyles at one time, too.
- Please be understanding if someone gets in your way. Keep moving while on the ice, as it is dangerous for both you and other skaters to stand still during a session. It is especially important not to stop in the middle of the ice or any of the jumping corners.
Skaters will be given one warning if they are not following the freestyle rules. If it continues, they will be asked to leave the ice for the rest of that session.
Helpful Tips:
- SPINS are to be done in the center of the ice
- JUMPS are to be done on the ends and corners of the ice unless you are in program or under the guidance of an instructor while in lesson.
