The mission of Learn to Skate USA is to provide a fun and positive experience that will instill a life-long love of skating or hockey.

Whether you are looking to skate recreationally or competitively, play hockey or figure skate, we have a program for you! We teach children and adults the fundamentals of ice skating while building confidence and skills through each lesson. Programs promote the health and fitness benefits of ice skating and equip each participant with the foundation necessary to reach their recreational or competitive goals. The confidence and joy you see your kids gain today will become the greatness your kids achieve in the world tomorrow.

Benefits of learning to skate before learning to play hockey: Our Learn to Skate USA program is endorsed by USA Hockey and we will teach you the basic skills that will help you succeed as a hockey player! You will learn forward and backward skating, stops, curves and turns BEFORE you learn how to play hockey. Learn to skate, then learn to play hockey!

Learn to Skate USA Membership 

All skaters registering in our Learn to Skate USA programs must register or renew their Learn to Skate USA membership. There is a $16 registration fee per skater. This applies to both first time participants and returning skaters.

If you have registered through Learn to Skate USA in past seasons, login to your account and renew your skater’s membership here.

Our goal is to have children gain confidence, personal strength, and learn positivity on the ice while developing essential skating skills. Skaters progress at their own pace working toward mastering each skill. Agility, balance, coordination and speed are the main focus. We incorporate fun and games on the ice to make class time an enjoyable experience for all!

Learn to Skate USA

The Parent/Tot classes are introductory classes allowing children with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basics with a parent or adult friend accompanying the skater on the ice. These classes are designed to help children five and younger develop fundamental movement skills and physical literacy.
Adults must be able to skate.

Professional instructors will teach 30 minutes with 10 minutes practice at the end of the class. Skate rental is included for both the parent and tot. Includes 5 free open skate passes that can be used for parent and tot. Learn to Skate USA membership required for tot only. The parent and tot ratio must be 1:1

Thursdays 12-12:30pm
Parents join their preschoolers on the ice in this parent and toddler instructional skating program. Designed for children with no skating experience to introduce skaters to the ice. Each skater is required to have one adult accompany them during the class. The accompanying adult must support and provide assistance for their child.

It’s never too late! The curriculum is designed for both beginning and experienced teen and adult skaters who wish to improve their skating skills. Participation in the program will help promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper skating techniques. This is an exciting program for people who look to skating as an enjoyable part of a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Learn to Skate USA for Hockey
Hockey 1-2

Mondays 6pm | Saturdays 12pm

Curriculum designed for children who have graduated from Snowplow 4 or higher to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating and to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus and all elements are taught without a puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, backward skating, knee bend, and other necessary fundamentals to be successful. Full gear not required..

Hockey 3-4

Mondays | Off-ice 5:30-5:50pm |  On-ice 6:10-7pm

Class is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating.
Class will include 20-minute Off-ice Class, 40-minute On-ice Skills Class and 10-minute game!

Off-Ice Class will focus on warm-up and strengthening exercises, stability, balance and coordination with a cool-down.

Off-Ice Skills Class participants will learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game, power, edge control of hockey are the primary focus of the levels. All elements will be taught without a puck. Skate rental is included with registration fee.

Requirements: Participants must pass Hockey 2 or Basic 2 levels
in Learn to Skate USA program in order to advance to Hockey 3-4 class.
Full Hockey gear required!

Boost Lessons offer short, personalized instruction sessions aimed at enhancing skills for skaters of all ages.

LESSONS INCLUDE

Each lesson lasts 20 minutes and can be arranged during public or freestyle skating times.  In a supportive atmosphere, these lessons ensure a fun experience, whether the focus is on hockey or figure skating. You can book up to three lessons, and for further sessions, you’ll need to coordinate directly with your coach.

The cost for each Boost Lesson is $20, payable at skate rental before the lesson begins. Remember to bring your receipt to show your instructor at the scheduled time.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Boost lessons are only available for the Learn to Skate USA, Hockey 1-4 or Adult 1-4 program participants or prior to the program.

BOOK YOUR LESSON!

Step 1: Go to the website Coaching Staff – SportONE Parkview Icehouse for the available coaches/instructor’s staff

Step 2:  Select your preferred US Figure Skating Certified Coach or Learn to Skate Instructor. Email your request directly to the coach/instructor or Skating Director , Alena Lunin

Step 3: You must pay $10 for ice time on the day of the Boost lesson and provide a receipt to the coach/instructor prior to the lesson time.

Step 4: Boost lesson fee is paid directly to the coach/instructor

Lessons are be taught during freestyle or public skating sessions.

Boost lessons (no limit on # of lessons)

Price: $22 for 20 min
$10 Ice time – payment directly to the rink on the day of the boost lesson

TRY HOCKEY FOR FREE

Our try hockey for free events are designed to provide kids ages 4 to 9 the opportunity to try hockey in a FUN, safe environment with trained coaching staff. No experience is necessary! There will be plenty of assistance on hand to be sure your child has the best first hockey experience and answer any questions you may have.
